We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as we are actively recruiting for a Weld Engineering Technician. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a skilled and collaborative team, enhancing both individual and collective expertise in automated arc welding, while fostering strong relationships between the Controls Technicians and the Weld Engineering Department. This position reports to the Weld Engineering Supervisor.

What we’re looking for:

  • Resistance Spot / Resistance Projection / Gas Metal Arc welding equipment set up and validation
  • Destructive testing and quality evaluation of welded assemblies
  • Monitoring of weld quality for facility wide relevant projects
  • Documenting quality control checks and record retention for equipment buyoffs
  • Develop welding procedures
  • Develop design of experiment for relevant special projects and product development efforts
  • Provide internal and customer weld training related to welding product development efforts
  • Act as a customer liaison, contact, and resource for customer driven research and development work
  • Create and maintain open issues lists, timelines, and coordinate meeting efforts to drive related projects to timely resolution
  • Generate reports and summaries to relay findings and project status to management

Interested applicants should be familiar with or possess a working knowledge of:
  • Resistance, arc, gas and laser welding processes
  • Standard welding equipment, tooling and setup apparatus
  • Weld inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and qualification requirements
  • Applicable automotive welding specifications
  • Basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles
  • Industrial safety practices

What you need to succeed:
  • Post-secondary education in Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, or Weld Engineering
  • Candidates who have completed, or are currently enrolled in a recognized Welding & Joining Specialization program are preferred
  • Practical and hands on experience with various welding processes
  • Experience with materials science and metallurgical sample preparation
  • Robotic/automation experience would be an asset
  • Self-motivated, strong self-management skills and possesses initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft suite products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)


Salary Range: $20.00 - $34.00 / hour
